“Corolla Getaway” depicts a memorable family get together on the outer banks of Corolla, NC. Filled with family memories of kids running into the surf, an afternoon of bocce ball, children playing and shuffling though baskets and trolly’s filled with balls, buckets and shovels to make their perfect creations in the sand. Grandma and Grandpa sitting under the umbrella taking in the moments as they unfold one after another. A beautiful afternoon with a double rainbow appearing after the morning rain. The simple gifts of togetherness.
“Fragile Ocean Flowers”
Beneath the surface of the ocean lies a hidden garden. Coral reefs shelter thousands of species that depend on one another for survival. Delicate sea fans, anemones and starfish exist in harmony. A sea turtle glides effortlessly above vibrant coral forests, stingrays glide like birds up above, jellyfish drift and every crevice teems with life. Yet, as your eye travels to the far right of the painting, the mood quietly changes. The vibrant reef begins to fade into pale, ghostly coral, a reminder that our ocean environment is fragile. This painting celebrates both the wonder and vulnerability of our fragile ocean flowers.
Spirit Little Cedar Tree
The famous “Witch Tree” is located in Grand Portage, MN. My painting depicts the 400 year old tree with its gnarly cedar trunk, growing from a crack in the granite overlooking the lake. Every weathered curve has survived another winter, another gale, another generation.
It is a sacred place to the Ojibwe people and can only be visited with a tribal member. For centuries, travelers have offered tobacco and prayer before venturing onto the unpredictable waters of Lake Superior.
The “Witch Tree” is being carefully watched by the constellations and the dancing northern lights. A lone wolf is keeping close watch.
